Keywords: Christmas is not just about Jesus in our hearts, but also about joy in our homes. Why are some homes happy and others are not? Those who study human behavior tell us that every happy person has chosen to be happy. Sad and tragic events can rob us of happiness temporarily, but circumstance alone cannot make us happy. True happiness comes as much from our attitude as from our circumstances. Happy Christian homes are not accidents. They exist because we have chosen to be happy. In addition to worshiping the Lord together, happy Christian homes share certain traits: they respect and treasure one another; they spend positive time together; they support one another; they resolve conflicts quickly; and their words are kind to each other. Researchers tell us that happy marriages and happy homes have a 5:1 ratio (or better) on saying positive things to one another instead of negative things. That means that for every unkind or negative comment they make, there have been five or more kind or positive ones they have spoken. This morning we are examining the conversion of the Philippian jailer and see how his newfound faith in Christ changed his home life, and how your faith can bring lasting joy to your home as well.
